About ECAD

ECAD is Brazil's centralized music rights collection body. Unlike most countries where individual societies collect directly, Brazil uses a unique model where ECAD serves as the single collection point for all public performance royalties, distributing to multiple affiliated societies.

Brazil is the largest music market in Latin America and ranks in the top 10 globally. Brazilian music — from sertanejo and funk carioca to MPB and bossa nova — generates significant domestic royalties, while Brazilian streaming consumption has grown explosively.

ECAD collects from broadcasters, streaming services, venues, and businesses across Brazil and distributes to its affiliated societies (UBC, ABRAMUS, AMAR, SBACEM, SICAM, SOCINPRO), which then pay individual songwriters.

How ECAD works

Centralized Collection

ECAD is the single point of collection for all performance royalties in Brazil. It collects from all music users — broadcasters, streaming services, venues, and businesses.

Distribution to Societies

ECAD distributes collected royalties to its six affiliated societies based on usage data. Each society then pays its individual members.

International Routing

For international rights holders, royalties flow from ECAD through the affiliated societies and then through reciprocal agreements to foreign PROs or directly to registered publishers.

Why ECAD matters for songwriters

Brazil is served by ECAD for performance rights organization royalties. Without direct registration, international songwriters rely on reciprocal agreements — which typically add 12–24 months of delay before royalties reach you.
